On weekends, they would all gather together to watch a movie and talk late into the night, regardless of how busy they had been. On one such weekend, they watched a film where the male lead cheated on the female lead.

After the movie ended, they began discussing it.

Sanskriti said calmly, “It’s okay if the male character was happy in his extramarital affair.”

Muskan’s face turned red with anger. She slammed her hand on the table and exclaimed, “What! How can you say such a thing—even after being a woman yourself? Don’t you feel bad for his wife? A wife gives everything—her home, her family, her identity, her career, her love, her care, and even her beauty—to her husband.

And what does the husband give her in return? Nothing! Oh wait—he gives pain, suffering, insecurity, and what else? He only takes—takes everything, even her body—for his nightly pleasure! And you’re saying it’s okay for him to have another woman by his side?”

She banged the door and stormed out of the room, thunderous with fury.

The room she left behind was silent and shocked. The walls, along with the still figures seated inside, were left staring at one another—Muskan’s words echoing in the heavy quiet. Silence cloaked the space like a thick fog.
